QA Engineer Job Description

Job Overview
We develop a variety of software applications used by our corporate and municipal customers. We are looking for an individual to join our team and participate in testing these applications. This individual will work under the guidance of an ATS Product Manager to test web based and windows form applications. The individual will also work with other ATS testing team-members sharing knowledge and experience to help enhance ATS's QA competency.

The ideal candidate will have a bachelor's degree or higher and 7+ years experience in software quality assurance focused on Web-based application testing. Candidate should have superior skills in each of the following areas:

  • Requirement Analysis
  • QA Processes & Methodologies
  • Automated Unit, Functional and performance Testing

Candidate should have excellent analytical and problem solving skills and have a hands-on, "get it done" attitude. Candidate must understand QA methodologies and processes and be comfortable with conceptual projects, be agile, and be pragmatic in building for the long term. Candidate must be skilled at iterative development and release management, and be able to manage multiple overlapping versions.

ResponsibilitiesThe position will support the development of automated test scripts, test cases and set the standards for the QA frameworks. In addition, the individual will:

  • Design detailed test cases and procedures from requirement specifications
  • Implement and/or review automated test cases
  • Conduct unit testing, regression testing, system-level integration testing, end-to-end testing and acceptance testing
  • Ensure all product releases meet or exceed defined quality goals
  • Provide technical QA leadership and training to new QA associates
  • Work with development teams to facilitate and advise unit, performance, and stress testing
  • Test new applications as well as continue ongoing, repeatable testing for existing products

Experience Required

  • 5+ years experience with Windows operating systems and applications
  • 3+ years experience designing and executing tests using automated testing tools: Mercury Test Suite including: Test Director, Quick Test and Load Runner
  • 2+ years experience writing test cases and test plans
  • Experience with SQL and SQL-related tools: Toad, SQL Navigator, etc.
  • Experience with enterprise development tools and standards
  • Clear and effective written and verbal English communications skills
  • BS/CS or equivalent experience

Core Competencies

  • In-depth understanding of software development processes and methodologies including their documentation and creation
  • Experience working with automated test software including creating scripts from scratch as well as maintaining legacy scripts
  • Experience generating and performing manual testing and reporting results to a defect tracking system/process
  • Knowledge and experience with version control and defect tracking systems
  • Ability to weigh business requirements versus quality requirements to assess impact and severity for found issues
  • Ability to comprehend overall product vision and participate in feature definition process
  • Able to work well with development engineers
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and communication skills
  • Must be a self starter able to work independently as well as part of the ATS team
  • Attention to detail
  • Must possess creative and analytical problem solving and exceptional technical skills
