Speed Camera System Operator Job Description

Job Overview
ATS is currently recruiting Speed Camera System Operators for full-time and part-time positions in Phoenix and Tucson, Arizona.
Core Duties and Responsibilities
The Speed Camera System operator will work in the Operations Group.
- The individual will operate a Speed Camera Van within the guidelines of the Contract and Police Department Program Managers. The Speed Camera Operator will deploy the enforcement van at sites chosen by the Police. At the assigned site the Operator will set up the equipment per operating guidelines, test the equipment and monitor the equipment and traffic throughout the deployment.
- The Operator may be required to testify in court that the equipment was set up, tested and operating properly and the recorded violation is accurate and prosecutable.
- The Operator will have direct contact with the Police Department Managers and as such must present a professional attitude and appearance.
Secondary Functions and Duties
- During cyclical calendar periods, the Operators may be assigned to other functions including but not limited to violation processing, coordination of van maintenance, coordination of equipment maintenance, and certification, and attend annual refresher training.
- Operators are required to perform daily/weekly cleaning of van and equipment to maintain acceptable appearance.
Required Skill Sets
- Quality Control: Detail orientation is a key requirement of this position. The Operator must continually monitor the system to verify that the equipment is working properly according to the Operator's training and the equipment is capturing images of the highest quality.
- Training: initial, follow on and annual training will be provided. (Training will be conducted in the Scottsdale /Phoenix Metro area)
- Customer Service: The Operator will be required to interact in a professional manner with police clients, school administrators, school staff and crossing guards.
- Visual and Oral Presentation Skills: The Operator may be required to testify in Court on violations that are challenged by the violator. As such, the Operator will be required to thoroughly understand system operations, capabilities, and basic limitations.
- Troubleshooting Ability: The Operator will be required to conduct first level troubleshooting functions if the equipment detects faults.
Desired Skill Sets
A basic understanding of computer usage and cameras and photography is desired, including an ability to determine focal points, camera focus adjustments and strobe unit directionality per training guidelines.
Performance Measurements
Performance will be based on, but not limited to:
- Issuance rates - The percentage of violations issued compared to total violations recorded
- Client feedback - Continual feedback provided by the Police Departments on the performance of the incumbent relating to following assigned deployment schedules interactions with citizens, co-workers and client representatives.
- Ability to identify and correct minor anomalies
- Interpersonal skills - Communicates as a team member among ATS staff members
- Recommends and adopted suggestions for improvements
