As the New Year approaches, communities operating ATS traffic enforcement programs want to remind their citizens and visitors to drive carefully during the holiday and throughout 2009.
More than 300 communities across the U.S. and Canada use red-light and speed photo enforcement programs to make local roadways safer for pedestrians and drivers. Independent studies from the Insurance Institute on Highway Safety prove that camera programs are successful at reducing red-light running violations by 40-50 percent, and reducing injuries from crashes by 30 percent.
Photo enforcement programs are an excellent tool for communities to help decrease traffic violations, crashes and injuries caused by red-light runners and speeders. Attentive and defensive drivers are the most effective way to keep roadways safe.
