ATS Applauds Study Recommendations

Scottsdale, AZ — American Traffic Solutions (ATS), the nation’s leading road safety camera provider, applauds a new study’s findings highlighting many of the same essential components necessary for a successful red-light or speed safety camera program already instituted by ATS.

Conducted by the National Cooperative Highway Research Program, the research arm of the Transportation Research Board of the National Academies, the Automated Enforcement for Speeding and Red Light Running Report No. 729 found five essential qualities that should be a part of every road safety camera program. Successful programs provide initial and continuous information to their community about the camera system; are motivated by the need to address a traffic hazard; are supported with strong enabling legislation; are repeatable in other localities, and are monitored on a regular basis to evaluate their performance and operation.

The findings are based on surveys or interviews with more than 350 jurisdictions with current or past camera enforcement programs, a review of legislation from all 50 states, and an extensive literature review to determine the effect of the programs, cost effectiveness and resource requirements and to get the perspective of the public. The study set out to determine what makes a red-light or speed safety camera program successful. The full report is available online at
